José Hernán Cibils was born in Santa Fe, Argentina and studied composition and conducting at the Universidad Católica de Buenos Aires. Later on, he moved to Germany to continue his musical studies. Since then Cibils has established himself as a versatile and highly original composer in the contemporary classical field . One of his most recent works, based on tango and other elements of Argentine music, was included by the Kontrabass Sextett of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in the programme for their 2004 and 2008 tour of Japan.
